Giant Chocolate Chip Muffins

Normal sized chocolate chip muffins are great, but giant chocolate chip muffins are awesome.

Giant Chocolate Chip Muffins


  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 3/4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
  • 12 tablespoons (1 1/2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk


  1. Preheat oven to 375 F. Lightly grease a jumbo muffin pan (should be six muffins to a pan) or use paper liners. Recipe makes 9 muffins.
  2. Sift the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt into a medium bowl.
  3. In a small bowl, toss the chocolate chips with 1 tablespoon of the sifted mixture.
  4. Cream the butter in the large bowl of a freestanding mixer.
  5. Add granulated sugar and mix for a few minutes.
  6. Add brown sugar and mix for a few minutes.
  7. Blend in vanilla extract, then beat in the eggs one at a time.
  8. Alternately mix in the sifted mixture (3 parts) and the milk (2 parts), starting and stopping with the sifted mixture.
  9. Stir in the chocolate chips.
  10. Spoon into prepared pan, evenly dividing between 9 muffins.
  11. Bake for 30 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.
  12. Cool in pan for 20 minutes, then remove from pan and cool on cooling rack.
